I’m not keep track of how long I have left, I just thought it sounded catchy. My first two weeks in Doha have mostly been spent planning for this upcoming year. I have been so excited to get back into the classroom to teach and work with students more in depth, that I haven’t given myself any time to explore.
In the last two weeks of writing lessons, deleting them, rewriting, and doing anything I can to make them as active, motivating, and efficient in the learning process as possible; I realized that you can over think teaching. Teaching with passion is something that works better than anything else. I’ve enjoyed trying to make the lessons as engaging as possible, but I need to remember that you can plan as much into a lesson as you want, buy they rarely go the way that you planned. So, just relax and go with it. That’s the biggest lesson I’ve learned over 2014. There is only so much that you can control and so much that you can plan for. Having an idea is great, but having other options and being ready for the unexpected is the best that you can do. In January I was talking about being in Austria to work on my Master’s. Now I’m in Qatar and the school is talking about supporting me for my Master’s. So, be flexible, adjustable, and bend like a willow.
One place that I have been is Souq Waqif to meet up with a friend who just happens to be stationed here. With my film camera breaking it’ll have to be a new investment into a fancy camera.
